Not all our projects are purely technical. From time to time a customer comes to us with something that puts our artistic side to the test. This job was exactly that kind of case.

Customer requirements
The customer contacted us wanting a reservation sign whose style would fit a witch-themed pub. The original design was only supposed to contain the name of the restaurant and the word “Reserved”.
Together we discussed several variants. In the end we agreed to add a witch on a broomstick and a system of interchangeable tokens for specifying the reservation time.
Design and production
As this wasn’t a technical brief, we discussed each step with the customer as we went. Before the design was finalised, there were several iterations in which we fine-tuned the size of the sign itself, the position of the texts and the font size. The result was a variant that exactly matched the customer’s vision.
From a technical point of view, we designed the system of reservation time tokens so that they can easily be swapped by flipping a latch, without any risk of them falling out. On top of the original order, we also supplied a practical box for storing the tokens neatly.
Choice of material and colours
The next step was choosing the material and colours. As the signs were intended exclusively for indoor use, there was no need for materials with higher temperature and UV resistance such as PETG or ASA. We therefore chose PLA, which offers slightly better colour rendering and detail reproduction than PETG or ASA.
All that remained was to choose the colour. Since we have more than 50 different colours and shades of PLA, we arranged for a personal visit to our premises.
You can see the customer’s final choice in the attached photos — a combination of metallic brown and gold. We have to admit the resulting combination is really successful. We would have struggled to choose better for this type of interior ourselves.

Future use
At the customer’s request, we archived all the materials for any future production of additional pieces or future design changes. We were of course happy to comply with this request and are already looking forward to the next challenge our future collaboration will bring.
